Seeking Nominations!
AEF is now seeking nominations for the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. If you know of a classmate, friend or relative that graduated from Burnham, Sylvania High School, Northview or Southview before 1997, then we need to hear from you. Nomination forms are available online or by calling 419-824-8553. Join the growing number of alumni to make that impressive list of graduates from Sylvania. The complete list is available online as well.
Donations Needed!
The foundation is always seeking donations to help fulfill their commitment of giving back to the classroom. Each year the Foundation provides money to district programs to enrich the overall academic endeavors of the District as well as providing scholarship monies to deserving graduates from both high schools. Your donation is tax-deductible. Simply mail a check to: Academic Excellence Foundation, 6850 Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. Donations over $1,000 can be named in your honor or in the name of someone you choose. Thank you for thinking of the Foundation.
Private Financial Support to Enhance Education in Sylvania
The Sylvania Academic Excellence Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to stimulating academic excellence and quality programming in the Sylvania schools.
Established in 1985 through a bequest from the estate of Augustus Zimmerman, an employee of the district, the Foundation now works to increase the endowment and allocate funds to enhance education in the Sylvania community.
The Foundation operates independent from the Board of Education. It is governed by its own board of trustees, drawn from the community, district teaching staff, and school administration.
AEF Grants Support District Projects
Each year, the Foundation provides financial support for numerous District-wide projects that would not otherwise be covered through the regular Board of Education budget.
Funding for these enrichment programs is made in the form of grants for programs. Grant requests are considered twice each year.
The Foundation has distributed over $90,000 since 1987 to about 200 teachers to help fund enrichment programs, special projects, and materials and equipment generally improving the quality of learning for literally hundreds of Sylvania School students. This amount grows from year to year as community support grows.
Events Celebrate School Achievement
In addition to the grant program, the Foundation supports academic achievement through a community-wide event:
- The Distinguished Hall of Fame gala honors outstanding Sylvania graduates who serve as positive role models for todays young people.
Scheduled in the spring, this program draws broad community participation and visibility.
Continuing Financial Support Is Needed
None of these outstanding programs are possible without the continuing financial support of the Academic Excellence Foundation.
Individual tax-deductible gifts help the Foundations endowment grow. The focus of all the programs is strictly academic, the funding benefits all Sylvania schools and grade levels, and the dollars all stay within the community.
