Strategic Initiative #1: Increase student learning through high-quality instruction
1.1 Implement instructional strategies and alternative educational options that meet the wide-range
of student needs, interests, and ability levels.
1.2 Implement all-day, every-day kindergarten.
1.3 Review junior high and high school course offerings, instructional practices, and schedules
to ensure academic rigor.
1.4 Increase K-12 math, science, and technology learning opportunities for students.
1.5 Emphasize literacy skills across the curriculum and grade spans.
1.6 Expand students’ understanding of international issues, the global marketplace, and
different cultures.

Strategic Initiative #2: Increase the effectiveness of district operations/services
2.1 Restructure the HR/Payroll functions and utilize an integrated software package to
manage/streamline work flow.
2.2 Restructure the food service program to increase nutritional options, wellness, service quality,
and cost effectiveness.
2.3 Establish a set of guiding principles for junior high/high school athletics.
2.4 Integrate the district’s wide area network (WAN) to expand learning opportunities and
increase operational efficiency.
2.5 Upgrade district school buildings based on the findings and recommendations
included in the Strategic Facilities Master Plan.
2.6 Integrate district emergency procedures, school safety plans and positive school
climate factors.
2.7 Expand upon cost saving measures and fiscal procedures to ensure the district’s
financial stability.
2.8 Seek alternative revenue sources to enhance academic/extracurricular programs.

3.1 Implement outreach activities that engage nonpublic school groups – senior citizens,

Sylvania Schools Athletic Foundation.
3.3 Increase the content and user-friendliness of the district web page.
3.4 Increase marketing strategies to retain current students and recruit future students.
3.5 Expand upon collaborative ventures with local governmental entities and community
organizations that benefit the school district and enhance the quality of life of the
Sylvania community.
