Career Technology Education

Program Information
It is the philosophy of the Career Technical Education Department that all students should receive career information and that career technical education should be available for all students. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for additional education and successful employment.

The training that students receive through classroom experiences and/or work experiences is equivalent to that normally found in business and industry. This enables students to become more successful as they progress from school to their post high school experiences. The technical programs that are offered depict student interest, reflect current and projected employment opportunities, and span a wide spectrum of occupational areas.

Career Technical Education can be an effective route to college because it...

  • Gives you hands-on experience that can unlock many new options.
  • Teaches you a skill that can help you pay for your education.
  • Offers you a way to explore a field that interests you.
  • Can help you acquire advanced credit or experience related to your college major.
  • Has built-in links to certain college programs.
  • Provides a way to combine academic and career & technical courses to achieve a first-class education.

Career Technical Education involves Technical Skills, Academic Skills and Employability Skills needed to prepare you to make informed career choices and to successfully enter, compete and advance in a changing work world.

Only 20% of the jobs in the U.S. require a four year degree; however, 85% will require education beyond high school. The most serious shortage of workers in the country is not among those with college degrees or even the un-skilled. The real shortage is of skilled technicians. For the future, technicians with talent and up-to-date skills will be able to call their own shots, and assure their own success - - because skilled crafts people and reliable technicians are the backbone of a competitive, high tech society. The technical skills that students have an opportunity to learn gives them an extra edge in today’s competitive market.

Those who choose to enroll in a Career Technical Education program become part of a Quality Connection that links school to career options.
