An Invitation Into Inquiry

Sylvania’s elementary classrooms are coming alive with the philosophy of learning that permeates the Full Option Science System program, FOSS. The developers of the FOSS program are dedicated to the proposition that elementary students learn science best by doing science. Sylvania’s elementary teachers and students do science together when they work with their FOSS kits. The activities engage both students and teachers in a way that leads to a deeper understanding of the natural world.

Sylvania recently purchased a variety of FOSS kits to be used to address the indicators found in Sylvania‘s Science Course of Study. Among the thirteen kits selected by Sylvania you’ll find Solids and Liquids (first grade), Insects (second grade), Measurement (third grade), Magnetism and Electricity (4th grade), and Environments (5th grade). Each kit provides opportunities for exploring not only science content but also the process of science.
