Parents' School Council

The general purpose of this council is to serve as a medium through which the formally organized parent organizations affiliated with the Sylvania Schools can together look at current issues which are beyond the scope of a single organization working alone.

The council shall also support the mission statement of the Sylvania Schools stated as follows:

“Working together, we will guarantee that every student has a superior learning experience through a comprehensive curriculum driven by a committed staff and enhanced by parent and community partnerships so that all students become responsible citizens who master the skill of lifelong learning, analytical thinking and communication in a global society.”

The council has stated specific purposes as follows:

  • To study and help identify school-community needs and activities at the district-wide level of operation
  • To serve as a coordinating body through which the participating organizations plan their programs to avoid duplication
  • To act as a clearing house for the exchange of facts and information relating to Sylvania Schools
  • To foster a positive relationship between the community and Sylvania Schools

Membership in the PSC
Membership in the Sylvania Parent School Council is open to anyone in the Sylvania community. All interested parties are invited to attend the meetings and have voting privileges.

Each school’s parent organization is responsible for selecting a minimum of two representatives to the council for each school year. In the event of a school representative vacancy, the parent organization can select an individual to fill the rest of the year.

The central office administrators and principals serve as advisors to the group along with a Board of Education liaison elected each year.

There is a minimum of four general meetings each school year. Anyone is invited to attend the meetings throughout the year.

Meetings are generally held on the first Friday of each month during the school year at noon in the Zimpfer Conference Room, 3rd floor of the Burnham Building at 6850 Monroe Street. Meetings may be altered from the schedule as needed to address new or continuing concerns of the council and/or district. Check district newsletters for any changes in times and or dates.

These meetings are open to the public - we invite your attendance and support throughout the year. Additional questions and/or concerns, please contact one of the PSC officers below.
