In 2019, the FCC gave wireless phone carriers the ability to block text messages that appear to be spam. This change required cell phone users to OPT-IN to receive text messages sent to a large number of people, such as a school district, retailer and other organizations/buisinesses.

When you receive a text message through our notification provider seeking your approval to continue to receive text messages from Sylvania Schools, please reply “YES” to the text message. Once you approve with a YES text reply, you will receive text messages from the district through 79041.

If you don’t reply YES, then you will no longer receive text messages from our Sylvania Schools, even if you signed up for text messages through the parent portal, OneView.

Anytime you want to opt-in, you can send YES to 79041. This will allow you to continue receiving texts (only if you signed up for texts through the parent portal, OneView.) If you need to add phone numbers to receive texts, update your child's student information form in the parent portal, OneView.

*Note that this change is not related to texts from Remind, Opting-in to texts from Sylvania Schools does not affect whether or not you receive texts from Remind or through the Remind App.
 

To BEGIN receiving texts from the district:

1. Sign up for Sylvania Schools texts - Update the student information form in the parent portal, OneView. Enter cell phone numbers in the "Instant Connect" section of the form.
2.  Give permission to the cell provider that you want to receive texts from the school
   • Text YES to 79041   -or-
   • Reply YES when prompted by a text asking if you want to continue receiving texts from Sylvania Schools
