Update 8/14/19
After four hours of interviews and deliberation last night, the Sylvania Board of Education has chosen Dr. Ruslan Slutsky to fill the seat recently vacated by Stephen Rothschild. Dr. Slutsky is a professor in the Department of Teacher Education at The University of Toledo. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in child development, and a PhD in early childhood education. Having previously experienced the classroom as an early education teacher, Dr. Slutsky now prepares other teachers for the profession. He also has two children in the district and is involved with a variety of community and professional organizations. His vast education knowledge and experience will be an invaluable addition to the Board and to our district. We welcome Dr. Slutsky and look forward to swearing him in this Friday at 8:30am during a special board meeting at the Bradley J. Rieger Administration Building.
Thank you to the eight finalists for meeting last night and to all the applicants for stepping forward to offer your talents to our district. Sylvania is fortunate to have so many passionate, dedicated individuals who care so much about our children and our community.
Update 8/8/19 Sylvania Board of Education met this morning to discuss the 29 applications received for the open Board seat recently vacated by Stephen Rothschild. Two applicants were not considered due to missing the application deadline. Eight of the remaining 27 applicants have been contacted for an interview:

We thank everyone who took the time to apply for the Board seat and look forward to interviewing the eight finalists during the executive session of a special board meeting this Tuesday, August 13 at 5:45. We hope to have a final decision at our regularly scheduled Board meeting on Monday, August 19.
Update 7/22/19
Sylvania Schools thanks Stephen Rothschild for serving on our Board of Education since 2013 and wishes him the best of luck as he begins his new career. His resignation from the Board leaves an opening for a term ending 12/31/21.
The Board is accepting applications through Monday, August 5. If you are a district resident and interested, please complete the application and send it along with a cover letter to the Treasurer’s office. The Board will review the applications and select candidates to interview. The successful candidate will be approved by August 31.
