1. Learning Goals
- Learning goals describe desired knowledge to be gained
- Learning goals also reflect district, building, personal and student needs and strategies
- Learning goals ARE NOT THE SAME as goals for improving
PRACTICE or PERFORMANCE
2. A learning goal should contain a verb that relates to learning:
- I will explore…
- I will research…
- I will investigate...
- I will study…
- I will become familiar with…
3. Learning goals should cite an area of knowledge
- I will explore alternative assessment
- I will investigate the use of service learning in science
- I will study problem-based learning
- I will become familiar with the internet as a research based tool
4. Learning goals should cite a rationale
- I will explore alternative assessment to help improve math achievement
- I will investigate the use of service learning in science to share knowledge with my colleagues
- I will study problem-based learning to deepen understanding in science
- I will become familiar with the internet as a research based tool to help improve language arts instruction
