A message from Sylvania Schools...
Our District has received a number of questions about the content of a mailing that was distributed in our community by Ohio House of Representative Derek Merrin. In the advertisement, our two high school logos are used and statements made suggest that Representative Merrin is in support of the school district and/or that the District supports the election of Representative Merrin. Apparently, the same advertisement was sent out in the Anthony Wayne and Ottawa Hills Districts using their school logos and sharing the same content.
The school district was not asked to use our Northview Wildcats or Southview Cougars logos in these advertisements. Neither Representative Merrin nor his campaign committee reached out to the district to request permission to use our trademarked logos.
Please know the school district or school board does not provide political support nor endorses specific candidates. Our district does not have an affiliation with this candidate or any other candidate running for office on November 3. In addition, the District will not answer questions in regard to the accuracy of the information in the flyer about Mr. Merrin’s support for public education.
Since our logos are trademarked, we have many local nonprofit and business partners who support and partner with our district and have permission to use our logo for limited purposes. If you have questions about the use of our logos, please contact Amy Addington, Sylvania Schools Communications Coordinator at [email protected]
